Pawtucket Central Falls Development to repurpose two buildings. Here’s the plan
PAWTUCKET — A nonprofit agency plans to turn a vacant medical building formerly owned by the state into apartments, half of them at below-market rents.
Pawtucket Central Falls Development was chosen by the city to redevelop two properties into affordable housing. The city bought the medical building at 160 Beechwood Ave. from the state for $400,000 following an auction by the city in November that set the purchase price. The city also bought a single-family home on Owen Avenue.
The organization is still working on plans for 15,000-square-foot office building as it prepares to buy it from Pawtucket by the end of summer. The building could reopen as housing as early as 2024, if “everything lines up just right,” Executive Director Linda Weisinger said.
The current vision is 50% affordable housing, including a portion for those making no more than 30% of the area median income — $20,000 for a single person or $29,000 for a family of four — and the rest either market rate or restricted to people at a higher percentage of the median income, Real Estate Development Director Andrew Pierson said…
