what's new

The Housing Network of RI works in collaboration with many partners across the community in Rhode Island . In What's New, we will feature items and work drawn from our partners that bear directly on current events and issues.

" Rhode Island has a serious housing affordability issue and it is likely to get worse"

"Everyone knows that Rhode Island needs more affordable housing. How much more it needs- and where and how it should be build - is a matter of growing and intense community debate. Much of this debate focuses on the "10% goal..."

This report is about more than evaluating the performance of communities in achieving a prescriptive government goal. Its about helping cities and towns figure out how much affordable housing they should plan to create, based on fundamental considerations like economic growth, community sustainability and helping our neighbors.

In 2003, the Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Corporation in conjunction with the Housing Network of RI commissioned a Planning Study from i squared, community development consulting entitled:

Affordable Housing for Rhode Island :

Goals for cities, towns and regions to:

  Build their economy
  Help their neediest neighbors
  Support their workforce and
  Grow smart
